The company's commitment to the green

Angelini is first and foremostly committed to helping patients. However it acknowledges responsibilities that go much further than this: in line with the formal commitment to stakeholders in its Code of Ethics, Angelini engages in a wide range of social initiatives throughout Europe and worldwide.

Angelini is deeply involved in the social field with charitable and fund-raising initiatives, it has organised broad donation programs including blood, medicines and food.
Education is another sector where Angelini is very active, promoting training for university student and scholarship programs.

A recent example is the Innovonco project in Spain, a competition open to all those involved in caring for cancer patients. Entrants were invited to submit ongoing or planned projects designed to improve the quality of life of those suffering from cancer. The first edition of the competition has just ended, with the two winning projects receiving grants of €6,000 each.

Another ongoing initiative aimed at university students, in Portugal and in the Czech Republic, is the Angelini University Awards, currently in its tenth edition. This competition encourages students to develop specific healthcare projects. Past winning projects include analytical napkins for patients undergoing palliative treatment, with results presented on a smartphone app; a software platform for improved management of health service resources and a medical device, FixURself, which is connected to a mobile phone app that advises on the best treatment for muscle injuries suffered during sport.

The company is also involved in the sponsorship of associations and foundations that help people facing or being challanged by difficulties.

Angelini is deeply committed to improving the quality of life of patients, and is sponsoring Headway 2023, a European initiative on mental health. Arising from a collaboration between Angelini and The European House-Ambrosetti, the prestigious Italian Think Tank, Headway 2023 is stimulating the debate on social and health care policies in various countries, encouraging the adoption of innovative pathways for diagnosis, treatment and social recovery. The final objective is to advance today's paradigm of the management and treatment of mental illness so that the social and health-care systems in each country can guarantee adequate and effective care pathways and assistance and, at the same time, promote better quality of life for patients and encourage legitimate social inclusion. This is also expected to have a strong and positive impact on families.

Attention to the environment has never been more important, and Angelini’s commitment is underlined by the UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 certification of all of its production sites. Important investments have been made in clean energy, with an Energy Management Team that ensures continuous improvements in energy consumption. Thanks to these measures, annual CO2 emissions have been cut by 849 tons a year.

Recently, a highly advanced energy saving system has been brought into operation in Angelini’s Ancona production plant. This system monitors and exploits favourable conditions in the external atmosphere to reduce the level of cooling of the water used for interiori conditioning. The savings were impressive: electricity consumption was cut by more than 830 MWh with 10,000 m3/per year of drinkable water saved.

The Angelini Packaging Design structure has been working for 16 years to reduce the environmental impact of packaging, combining “green” innovation with requirements for product conservation and improvement. The packaging weight and volume have been reduced to optimise transport logistics with consequent reduction in atmospheric pollution from vehicle exhausts. Moreover, recycled materials are extensively used.

Today, Angelini packaging is in line with the strictest international environmental regulations.
